Contemporary Performance

The selection is from a Contemporary/Diverse play or musical. The play must fit the following criteria:

The play should be written about the 21st Century (so anytime from 2001 to today) about current topics -- so a play written in 2015 should talk about events that happened no earlier than 2001 and not something that happened in 1950. So for example, HAMILTON nor THE COLOR PURPLE nor A RAISIN IN THE SUN would count.

The play must be written by a member of the global majority or marginalized voices. Some examples include:

African Americans

African/Asian

Indigenous Peoples

People of Color

Women

Non-Christian based religions

Members of the LGBTQIA community with a show focusing on that particular subject matter.

An intersection of various communities

Your monologue should be around 2 minutes long (approximately 20 to 25 lines). It must be a single-character speaking.

Your post and video should include the following:

Title

Author

Act and scene number

The character speaking

A few sentences as to what happened that led up to this moment

What is happening in this monologue and scene

Why you chose this monologue?

Examples to choose from include: The Shipment, Bare: the musical, Fun Home, Topdog/Underdog, Fabulation, Yellowface, JaJa's African Hair Braiding, The Revolutionists, Everybody, Bootycandkovy, Tribes, or American Son.
