Narrating a Conspiracy

Instructions: 

Write an eight to ten (8 to 10) page paper dealing with the Cato Street conspiracy of February 1820.

Drawing on Vic Gatrell’s analysis of the motivations and actions of the conspirators and others, you will write an account of the origins, course, and aftermath of the plot from the point of view of one of the following figures:

• John Thomas Brunt

• William Davidson

• George Edwards

• James Ings

• Arthur Thistlewood

• Susan Thistlewood

• Richard Tidd

You can complete this assignment using one of two possible approaches: you can write an account of the conspiracy as a third-person narrator, describing your man or woman’s actions as if you were there in Regency London observing them; or you can shape your narrative from a first-person point of view – imagining that you are your figure, experiencing the conspiracy as it developed or in its aftermath.
