Individual and Family Assessments
During this week, you will focus on considerations for individual and family assessment. After completing the resources in this week's What You Need to Know, here are some ideas to get you started in the discussion:
- Share how assumptions, implicit and explicit biases, and worldviews might impact your work with families.
- Other barriers to effective social work practice are burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. What do you think are the differences between these barriers? What resources can you share to learn more about these barriers and how to avoid and/or address them?
- While communication skills are needed for both in-person and virtual meetings, there are some special considerations for effective virtual sessions. Share a video, podcast, journal article, or other media that addresses best practices for effective communication during virtual sessions. What practices are you already using? Which ones do you want to add to or enhance in your virtual meetings?
- What about this week's content did you find to be of most interest or most applicable to social work practice, to your personal or professional life, and/or in your academic journey?
