Highlight key differences from your own background.
Family Dynamics & Roles
Compare values, beliefs, and rules with your own family.
Describe family roles and relationships.
Cultural Awareness & Challenges
Identify what information needs to be processed through your “cultural filter.”
List potential challenges in working with this family and how you plan to overcome them.
Counseling Approach & Interventions
Determine the family’s issues and which ecological system level (microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem) they need to be addressed.
Identify whether the family is an open or closed system and how that impacts therapy.
List the interventions you would use and why you chose them.
Building a Strong Counselor-Family Relationship
Highlight what the family would most appreciate from you as a counselor.
Identify what they may not appreciate and how you can navigate that professionally.
