What Makes Up an Analogy?
Goal: Analyze an analogy from literature using analogical reasoning concepts.
Step 1 – Pick an analogy
Choose a quote from any published literature (not written by you)
Must be school-appropriate
Need ideas? Use the GoodReads list provided
Step 2 – Model both parts (before transfer)
Identify the source and target of the analogy
Create a visual or written model of each (frame, mind map, diagram, plain text, etc.)
Show the structural similarities between them
Step 3 – Analyze the transfer
Explain what the author transfers from source → target
Show the target again, this time after the transfer
Use lecture concepts to support your analysis
Step 4 – Rewrite with a new source
Keep the same target
Replace the source with a different one
Explain how the new source changes the meaning of the analogy
