-
Ensure that the poster is readable, well-organized, and visually engaging with appropriate graphics and data representations (charts, graphs, etc.).
-
You will need to submit a digital version of the poster as a PDF.
-
An enhanced reference page must be submitted to the drop box in Blackboard

Voice-over Power-Points submitted as PPTX file via the drop box in Blackboard
Key Requirements for All Options
Topic Selection
-
The chosen topic should be current and relevant to paediatric nursing in Canada.
-
Students must email the professor for topic approval by end of week 2 of the course.
Evidence-Informed
-
Regardless of the format you choose, your content must be based on credible, peer-reviewed research, statistics, and evidence from relevant articles, internet sites, and grey literature.
Required resources are:
-
A minimum of 10 journal articles from scholarly peer reviewed publications from January 1, 2015, to the present identified using the CINAHL ultimate database. Students must submit a screenshot of the search strategy used and the results from the CINAHL Ultimate database. A literature review will be undertaken to ground your submission in evidence. A literature review table may be created (if you choose); however, this will not replace the requirement to submit a copy of the original CINAHL search strategy. The selected journal articles must be specifically linked to the topic, and relevant to the Canadian nursing context.
-
Four or more internet sites that are trustworthy (evidence-informed, reliable, and accurate). The selected sites must be reliable and contribute supporting information.
-
Two or more pieces of grey literature (reports, presentations, theses, conference proceedings, government documents, guidelines providing reliable, supporting information.
-
An annotated bibliography in APA 7th ed. format must be submitted. Including the APA formatted reference and a one to two bullet points explaining why the articles/resource was selected.
-
Example of Reference Page Entry:
Al-Moteri,M. (2023). Evidence-based information-seeking behaviors of nursing students: Concurrent think aloud technique, Heliyon, 9, 4, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.heliyon.2023.e15549.
-
When seekers of evidence explain why an article is chosen, it increases engagement with and understanding of the content, application, and meaning of the information. Study was completed in Saudi Arabia; however, adult learning principles applicable for Canadian students also.
Clear Communication
-
The final product should communicate findings in a clear and effective way, tailored to the medium you have chosen.
Originality
-
Ensure that your work is original and that you properly credit all sources of information used. AI must not be used for this assignment.
Appendix A: Project Development Process
Project Preparation
i) Determine your team members (in class #1)
-
Do you want to work alone? Do you want to work in a pair? Do you want to work in a team?
Suggestions for selecting a successful team
-
Choose wisely: if you are passionate about the topic, researching and talking about it will be fun. Work with people who share your passion.
-
Identify your strengths and find teammates who will benefit from your strengths and whose strengths will benefit you.
Important things to consider when you determine your team:
-
If you chose to work alone, there is no change in assignment requirements.
-
Group projects can lead to breakdowns of long-term friendships. Use caution.
-
As adult learners, the team will be responsible to maintain effective team processes.
-
An enforceable, action-oriented group contract including the following components must be developed and submitted in week 2:
-
A list of clear expectations for conduct and participation
-
Assignment of specific roles, responsibilities, and tasks. More than one person can do the roles, but make sure the group agrees to who is responsible for what aspects
-
The plan to ensure there is an equal contribution of work
-
A list of actions that will be taken if a team member does not follow the contract (what will be done, how will it be done, how will it be documented).
-
An agreement to have an equal group-based grade. If a team determines individual grades are required, a separate written proposal must be submitted to the course professor, with an evidence-informed explanation.
-
-
Your professor will not intervene to assist in team dynamics, unless a documented violation of the group contract occurs or a student code of conduct violation occurs.
-
Every team discussion must have an agenda and must have documented minutes
ii) Choosing the Issue
-
The assigned issue will be mutually determined in discussion with the course professor in week 1 of the course.
Part 1: Research to Determine Focus
iii) Expand your general knowledge of the issue (week 1)
-
Using internet search engines, explore why the issue is impacting child health.
-
Critically evaluate each internet site for accuracy, reliability, and validity. What, if any, expert oversight, or peer-review exists? Who are the publishers?
-
Identify four or more internet sites that are trustworthy (evidence-informed, reliable, and accurate) to gain a deeper understanding of the issue.
-
Identify two or more pieces of grey literature (reports, articles, presentations, theses, conference proceedings, government documents) valuable to gain a deeper understanding of the issue.
-
Create a reference page in APA (7th ed.) format. List each internet site and grey literature source on the reference page and include a single bullet point providing evidence that the internet site is trustworthy. An enhanced reference list is due in week 5.
iv) Develop a question to explore your issue (week 2)
-
Based upon the knowledge you have gained from the internet and grey literature, identify what makes you feel engaged, feel passionate, makes you want to learn more, and/or do something. This is the topic angle for the project.
-
Identify what specific aspect of the topic angle will be the focus of your project submission
-
Determine what the intent of the project will be.
-
Consider how your knowledge from previous courses links with the focus.
-
Turn your topic angle into a question to guide your search of the academic literature.
-
Identify search keywords.
v) Move from general to scholarly knowledge (week 2)
-
Use a search strategy, including keywords, Boolean operators, wildcards, truncation, and subject headings to identify relevant literature.
-
Expand or narrow the search as necessary.
-
Save a copy of the completed CINAHL search strategy. Submit to the Dropbox in Blackboard
vii) Identify and select articles (week 3)
-
Critically evaluate articles identified in the search
-
Select a minimum of 10 journal articles from scholarly peer reviewed publications from January 1, 2015, to the present that specifically address the issue. The articles must be relevant to children in the Canadian context, meaning if the articles are from international locations, there must be a clear and obvious link to the Canadian context explained.
-
Add the journal articles to the enhanced reference page using APA (7th ed.) format. In addition, include a single bullet point explaining why the article is ideal supporting evidence.
-
Submit the enhanced reference list to the Dropbox in Blackboard
Part 2: Create Final Submission
vii) Create the submission (week 8 and 9)
19. Review the rubric in Appendix B
20. Create the submission meeting all requirements as outlined in the rubric
21. Submit the final product as instructed
