Read Chapter 11: Quality Improvement Models and Methodology, Pages 374-380 (Beginning at “Is Quality Improvement Evidence-Based Practice or Research?” heading and concluding after “Six Sigma and Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control”)
This reading provides an overview of four quality improvement strategies. As you complete this reading you should begin to consider the four different processes and how they might be used in practice. Each of the four types discussed, Donabedian, Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA), Lean, and Six Sigma, offer a variety of pros and cons. When planning a quality improvement project, it important that the project leader has chosen a method for QI that can be appropriately applied to the project and can understood by the team. Therefore, the leader should first be familiar with each process and then evaluate for a best fit.
For this activity you will compare any two QI Strategies of choice for use in the Capstone Project. First you will consider the QI strategies that were discussed in Lesson Two of this module (Donabedian, Plan-Do-Study-Act, Lean, and Six Sigma). You may also wish to consider additional models that you have used in previous work or through your own research.
Which strategies might best be used in the Capstone Project that you plan to develop? Complete a written comparison of two options.

Finally, determine which QI strategy would best meet the focus of your QI Capstone Project.
