Community Teaching Project
PART ONE:
Identify topic of interest by interviewing older adults in your community what health related information/teaching them need to support quality, healthy living.
You may see them at church, grocery store, senior centers, family or as neighbors. Use safety guidelines as you interact with this vulnerable population.
PART TWO:
Review the information presented on the CDC site related to health teaching and older adults and the module resources. Especially look at the material under "Develop & Test Materials" in left menu.
Under that tab there is an area "Understanding your Audience." See what is recommended for Older Adults. Also see information under What are the Challenges for older adults. Health literacy (HL).

PART THREE:
Develop a Trifold poster presentation (add pictures and increase font to fit the audience).( Does not have to be printed) (It can be virtual or on PowerPoint poster template)
The template can be altered as you wish. Be creative) on the identified topic taking into consideration the teaching/learning needs of older adults.
You can create handouts, pamphlets, etc., as well.
This must be your own work.
Avoid copying already made teaching materials.
Reference and cite as appropriate.
Be sure to utilize the latest guidelines and evidence to prepare your project to meet the needs and challenges of older adults and health information literacy.
Support this with evidence. Finish this in module 4.
PART FOUR:
Deliver your prepared teaching presentation on the identified topic.
Be sure project meets the needs and challenges of older adults and health information literacy in both written and oral presentation.
Be sure your entire poster is visible (this is a PPT slide that can be printed into a pamphlet so if you will do this virtually, you can print one and mail it, or you can email the ppt slide (or Canva, or any design software you choose).
You can use email, FaceTime, zoom etc. if a virtual presentation is best. Finish this up before or during Module 5 ahead of due date.
PART FIVE:
complete by end of module 5 week to be able to submit with the final write up by due date
Use the Community Teaching Project Feedback Form.docx to gather older adults' evaluation of teaching project delivery.
You need to submit the feedback forms. You can scan the feedback forms or take photos to upload them with your assignment.
Summarize the findings in the assignment description, discussing any changes needed in the project to meet the needs of the participants.
What were your strengths and/or areas for improvement?
There should be at least one of each.
FINAL SUBMISSION:
Submit the following by Sunday night of Module 5: Poster Presentation Slide (Just a single slide)
A professionally written, brief reflective piece about your experience describing (APA 7th ed).
How you chose your topic with rationale (Include data supporting the need).
Methods and strategies to meet the health literacy and teaching/learning needs for older adults and rationale, including supporting evidence.
A description of your implementation/teaching with rationale for your choice supported by scholarly evidence.
I recommend including a theory here! Summary of participant(s) feedback.
Include at least one strength and one weakness, whether identified by the participants or through you own personal reflection (if no participant lists any) and at least one change you would make after having completed the implementation.
Upload the completed participant feedback forms as one file if possible.
Cite references in teaching materiakovls as appropriate.
