Time Expectation:
Purpose: This assignment is designed to help you think clinically rather than memorize. By creating your own case, you will strengthen:
● Clinical reasoning
● Recognition of fluid and electrolyte imbalances
● Test-taking skills
Instructions:
You will create TWO original patient cases:

ONE electrolyte imbalance
-
ONE fluid imbalance
Each case must follow the structure below.
PART 1: Create Your Case
Choose ONE electrolyte imbalance:
● Hyponatremia or Hypernatremia
● Hypokalemia or Hyperkalemia
● Hypocalcemia or Hypercalcemia
AND choose ONE fluid imbalance:
● Fluid volume deficit (dehydration)
● Fluid volume excess (overload)
Case Template (Complete for EACH case)
Patient Scenario:
Write 3–5 sentences describing your patient.
Include:
● Age and basic background
● Reason for hospital visit
● Relevant history (if applicable)
● Be creative and make it fun!
